WHAT IS A PLANT-BASED LIFESTYLE (PBL)?

A lifestyle wherein persons prevent and reverse disease and lead a happier and healthier existence through the mindful awareness and intentional consumption of solely plant-derived foods. WHAT EXPERTS ARE SAYING ABOUT PBL

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics released a position paper on vegetarian diets (2016). and found that a plant-based lifestyle is a superior way to achieve optimal health outcomes. Furthermore, it was discovered that “Vegetarians and vegans are at reduced risk of certain health conditions, including ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancer, and obesity.” These are the deadliest diseases, killing millions of Americans each year.

Several recent studies have demonstrated that a WFPB lifestyle can perform the near-miraculous feat of not only preventing but also reversing some chronic diseases. For example:

  • The American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American Diabetes Association both recommend a plant-based diet as being the most effective nutritional approach when it comes to managing blood glucose levels and preventing metabolic conditions such as diabetes (Evert et al., 2012).
  • A WFPB diet can reverse heart disease, with results that are quantifiable with radiological studies such as angiograms and PET scans (Esselstyn, 2017).
  • A WFPB diet has been shown to reverse type 2 diabetes. This disease has reached epidemic proportions in the US and is predicted to occur in ⅓ to ½ of children born after the year 2000 (McMacken & Shah, 2017).
  • A WFPB diet can halt the progress of early-stage prostate cancer (Friedrich, 2022).
  • A low-fat WFPB diet without the need for portion control has been shown to induce steady, sustainable weight loss and health maintenance once the desired weight has been reached (Tran et al., 2020).
  • The 2nd Adventist Health Study found that ovo-lacto vegetarians had 9% reduced mortality, and vegans had 15% reduced mortality compared to similar health-conscious non-vegetarians (Orlich et al., 2013).
